Rett Syndrome Conference 2013

The 3rd European Rett Syndrome Conference  from October 17th – 19th 2013.

 The conference brings together scientists, researchers, medics, clinicians, representatives from parent organisations and families from across Europe (and beyond) to share the latest information on preventive management and research relating to Rett Syndrome, and to stimulate international multi-disciplinary cooperation.

 

Many important topics will be addressed, including: genetics, epigenetics, neurobiology, neurophysiology of the brainstem, pluripotent stem cells, bone marrow transplantation in mice, bone health, nutrition, sleep, locomotion, and adult Rett.

 We are particularly excited to announce that there will be a special parent and professional track focusing on COMMUNICATION. 


The Communication track will include lectures and presentations on topics such as:

  • early speech, language and communication development in Rett Syndrome
  • communication skills in adults with Rett Syndrome
  • strategies for developing interaction and communication (including AAC and eye gaze)
  • cognitive assessment
  • socio-emotional development
  • music therapy.

There will be Interactive workshops on:

  • AAC
  • Eye gaze and eye tracking technologies.

As well as opportunities to put your own questions to the speech, language and communication professionals during a 'Meet the Experts' session.

And product demonstrations during the trade exhibition from suppliers of augmentative and alternative communication systems, including rdgKompagne and Tobii.

For the professionals, there will also be an open floor discussion around potential opportunities for collaborative research between international groups.

International speakers for the parent and professional track on Communication will include:

Peter Marschik (Austria), Judy Wine (Israel), Theresa Bartolotta (USA), Marith Bergstrom-Isacsson (Sweden), Sally-Ann Garrett (UK), Hans van Balkom and Carla Vlaskamp (Netherlands).
